Double Dee and Mike D - Hip Hop Style

February 12, 2018

Double Dee and Mike D of The Beastie Boys wearing the same pair of sunglasses! This photo of Double Dee and Steinski was taken by Peter Dougherty of MTV at his NYC apartment . Around that same period in 1986 Peter produced and directed, and Double Dee mixed, several spots announcing the Run/DMC and The Beastie Boys Together Forever Tour. The same exact pair of shades made it to both mugs as seen in the photo of the legendary duo and a screen grab from one of the commercials. We're not sure who wore them first but it's still pretty cool!

DMC himself is the voice over and not only was a pleasure to work with he did a terrific job. This was mixed at long gone Superdupe Studios #4 on a fine old Studer A80 Mk II 24 track tape machine with video on a JVC 3/4" deck synced to the multi track. Ancient technology by today's standards!

Dedicated to the director and friend Peter Dougherty.
